Description

Malbec is a wine grape that is originally from SW France (known there as "Côt"). This is the first of its kind! At Llano, Malbec has traditionally been aged in newer, small oak barrels to create a softer texture and to add some toasted oak flavors to the overall profile. This time we aged it in an ancient terracotta vessel called “Amphorea”.

The biggest impact that the amphorea imparts to the wine is of a textural nature. The "wild" tannins of this wine became firmer and weightier, but did soften at 12 months of age. Also, the wine aroma and flavor is "purer" as the amphorea does not add any flavor to the wine.
