We have been producing Sangiovese, as a varietal and in blends, for over 20 years now, with all of our grapes typically sourced from the Newsom Vineyards on the TX-NM border west of Lubbock. The 2019 growing season yielded beautifully ripe and aromatic Sangiovese across our AVA, enough that we were able to source from multiple vineyards to create a “cross AVA” blend of 100% Sangiovese. Suffice it to say that 2019 Sangiovese grown in the Texas High Plains was very reminiscent of a warm climate Pinot Noir than Italian Chianti. Stylistically, this wine reflects the warm climate and sandy soils it was grown in, being a softer, red cherry scented wine that begs to be served on the patio, slightly chilled, during the lovely transition from summer to fall in Texas.
Varietal composition: 100% Sangiovese Texas High Plains AVA (Reddy Family Vineyards 53%, Farmhouse Vineyards 10%, and Newsom Vineyards 37%)
