Chenin Blanc is a grape that is native to the Loire Valley in France where it is called "Pineau de la Loire”. The word "Steen" is the Dutch language word for "stone", and is also what winemakers in South Africa, which has the largest plantings of Chenin Blanc, call the Chenin Blanc grape. We call this wine made from Chenin Blanc "Steen" because the vines are grown in the stony, desert soils of the Dell Valley Vineyard. The Dell Valley Vineyard has vines that are now over 20 years in age! These old vines produce grapes that allow us to make a wine not indicative of the warm, desert climate it's grown in. Creating wines with beautiful aromatics and structure.
