Description

Tannat is a very old wine grape native to SW France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. Where is Newsom Vineyard and what makes it a special place for Tannat? The Newsom vineyard is on the extreme western edge of the Texas High Plains AVA near the town of Plains, TX. The vineyard is at an elevation of almost 4,000 ft and consists of shallow, sandy soils over an exposed section of calcareous rocks. This vineyard contains a high proportion of "old vines" that impart a uniqueness to the wines made from these mature plants. We have produced a Tannat in the past, but this is our first 100% Tannat expression!
